President Trump has just changed the asylum applicant work permit rule. All applicants must wait 365 days after receipt of their applications before being allowed to apply. However, this rule may revert back to 180 days depending on the upcoming presidential election.
The chance of winning asylum depends on your facts, your home country conditions and where you live in the U.S. Our attorneys will be honest about your chances. Each asylum case is unique and there are a variety of factors which may help you win asylum.
One year after being granted asylum, an asylee is eligible to apply for adjustment of status with USCIS to become a lawful permanent resident. The fact that an asylee is eligible to apply for adjustment of status after one year does not mean that he is required to do so. Asylum status does not expire, and an asylee can continue in that status indefinitely. However, remaining in asylum status means that an asylee will not be able to enjoy the various benefits of being a lawful permanent resident nor will the person begin to accrue the years as a permanent resident necessary to be eligible for naturalization.
